Teenage Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment has come a long way since the days of bulky metal wires and brackets. Many teens now actively choose to have orthodontic therapy to correct problems with tooth alignment, unattractive profiles, and mouth breathing. Treatment options for teens include a finer version of metal braces, clear, almost invisible braces, or clear, removable aligners. Albury-Wodonga Orthodontics know how vital the teen years are, and that’s why we have long conversations with teenager and their parents about what treatment is best for them.

Orthodontics for Teens

Lingual braces look and work like traditional metal braces; the key difference is you can’t see lingual braces. Why not? Because they are fitted to the back surface of your teeth. You still get the same results as you would if you wore metal or clear braces, but you can achieve them without anyone knowing you’re having treatment.

When Can Your Teenager Start Treatment

Most people have all their adult teeth by age 12 or 13. That means any spacing or bite problems become reasonably prominent, and it’s a great time to start orthodontic treatment!

When teeth aren’t positioned, they are more vulnerable to dental problems. In some people, crowding can make them harder to clean, leading to problems like decay and gum disease. Getting the problems corrected early can help you keep your teeth healthier for life.

A Unique Approach to Treating Teenagers

  • A teenager’s jaw is growing and very reactive to orthodontic treatment. This means it is much easier to treat issues in teens, such as crowded, crooked teeth and problems with their jaw or bite.
  • We can achieve a beautiful smile for your teen. During the teenage years, especially the early teens, children are still growing, including periods of growth spurts. This assists the treatment process, as jaw and teeth alignment occurs more rapidly. The teenage years also bring a lot of social and emotional changes, so feeling confident with their smile will assist them greatly during these years of significant change.
  • We use the latest technology at Albury-Wodonga Orthodontics. We understand that teenagers have enough to worry about with the stress of peer pressure and school; the last thing they want to worry about is the possibility of needing braces, too. With invisible orthodontics, there is no need to worry. We can use barely visible aligners that can be removed for special occasions, such as school formals and graduations. Their friends won’t even notice you are wearing them.
