How Teeth Whitening Works


Teeth whitening treatment begins with an initial consultation where we discuss the ideal colour of your smile and whether you prefer to undergo teeth whitening treatments in our clinic or use our take-home kits.

The In-Chair Whitening Process

In-chair teeth whitening is a two-step process. First, the surface of the teeth is cleaned to remove superficial stains on the outside of the teeth. Once these extrinsic stains are removed, the new layer of surface will have a whiter appearance. For the next step, we apply a teeth-whitening gel to the surface of the teeth. This whitening gel consists of gentle bleaching agents that work to remove stains and discolourations that are stuck under the enamel layer. After applying the whitening gel, your dentist will use a UV light on your teeth to activate the bleaching agent. 

How To Use Take-Home Whitening Kits

Take-home teeth whitening kits include detailed instructions for applying the whitening gel to your teeth and guidelines on when to rinse it off. Our dentists will also provide clear guidance to ensure optimal results. However, it’s important to remember that the final outcome of your teeth will depend on how well you’ve followed the instructions.
